It was intense and difficult but definately beneficial.

Claire is an exceptional instructor and diver. I felt comfortable and safe at all times and her instruction is detailed and accurate. i would not hesitate to learn with her again and would recommend her to others.

A well presented and enjoyable course. Clare worked incredibly hard and helped us as much as possible. Can't think of a single negative thing to say. Would certainly recommend her to others.

The course exceeded my expectations with regards standards and level of learning.

Top class, excellent teacher. Strict, but fair and very knowledgable and responsive! Best dive course ever.

The training team (two instructors (two on the second in-water day) and one Intern) were thoroughly professional and spent much of the after-class time answering student questions where they were approachable and patient, knowledgeable and friendly. This confirms to me the way I want to be about my diving; that is, diving with people who consider safety, knowledge, skills and of course fun, as paramount in their approach to their sport.

Thoroughly enjoyed the course. Clare's teaching style was spot on, very focused and clear in what was required and feedback was useful with clear areas and suggestions to work on for the next dive.

A fantastic course, which highlighted the areas in which I needed to work harder. The skills shown by the instructor were outstanding, and really brought home the work required to achieve the standards. Am definately taking this route for future courses.

Clare, along with her two video/safety divers where friendly and approchable offering insight and information with respect to actual experiences relevant to each particular training dive. A good team who are all obviously enthusiastic about thier passion for DIR diving.

An instructor who patiently explained the theory behind all our "why" questions with examples, rather than the "just because" that one would come to expect from a course. I feel that my standards have continued to improve dive after dive without degradation, due to the quality of instruction and class techniques.

Excellent course, well run by an outstanding instructor.

It is impossible to fault the instructor, or any of the other members of the instructor's team - all were impeccably clear in explaining and demo'ing skills, and very professional in everything they did.

Clare conducted a course that by a long way exceeded my expectations. Clare was 100% focused on what we had to get through and at no point drifted off subject which made taking in the information as easy as possible. Clare was able to give excellent real life experience and was able to deliver information that made it relavent to our individual diving environments. In water Clare's diving abilities and awareness of what was happening where incredible. The course was delivered in a solid, serious yet somehow fun way. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the course to anyone wanting to refine there diving.

It was challenging but fun at the same time, and this mix made the course really enjoyable. Fantastic!

Clare made a huge effort to ensure the team understood the briefings on every dive, so when underwater none of the skills were a surprise which for someone new to twinset diving was invaluable. The feedback given was always positive and she reinforced good procedures for safety reasons, which if weren't done became obvious why they are required.(eg entanglement). The course is incredibly intensive but I loved the way that it really comes back to the basics of teaching buoyancy and trim as fundamental skill that underlies all the others, I have not come across this before through other agencies. Also the way that we had evening lectures and dinners together really enforced the team aspect to the diving as we all got to know and trust each other much more. In summary excellent course content and brilliantly delivered. I am a better diver for it.

Excellent. Thanks again!

It was a fantastic course and I would definitely recommend both the course and our two instructors (though I would try to avoid that Mr Squirty!). In all honesty I had previously looked at IANTD instruction as the easy way out and I think at one stage (compared to say GUE’s Tech1) it was. However the bar has been well and truly raised thanks to both the new IANTD UK management and Training Director and especially our two instructors, which resulted in Butch and I getting high class training out of the week which has greatly improved our diving skills (well we like to think so anyway!). Clare and Howard pushed us out of our comfort zone and our diving greatly improved as a result. We ended being completely comfortable with complex failures and our skill levels greatly improved. What is more is that we have both taken away things to work on and continually improve and we all gained three new potential dive buddies!

Clare Pooley

There are few women active at the top of technical diving, but one of the most active is Clare Pooley.

Teaching for both GUE and IANTD, Clare Pooley can be found underwater anywhere from cold water deep wreck dives to the crystal clear Mexican caves, enjoying single tank reef dives through to mixed gas multi stage/scooter cave dives in the colder waters of France or here at home.

Clare teaches OC diving in the DIR style in the UK and in Europe, encouraging streamlined gear and good technique in all students whether they seek intro tech, trimix or cave certification.

Howard Payne

Howard Payne is passionate about open circuit technical training and considers himself fortunate to have learned from visionary explorers Phil Short, Jarrod Jablonski and Richard Lundgren.

Now teaching exclusively for IANTD, Howard runs open circuit technical courses to normoxic trimix level both here in the UK and in the warm, clear waters of Malta.

Although he loves UK diving, even he would concede that there's nothing quite like running a mix course on a wreck like the Le Polynesien! Howard is currently involved with a deep wreck exploration project in Malta but he also has a long-standing love for cave diving.
